I have had issues with my weight ever since I was a baby. My parents knew less about nutrition and so I followed the league. Most of the times, we were out taking fast foods. With time, I just got bigger and bigger and I continued ordering more food. I had the most weight as compared to all my peers. I got new clothes more often because I could not fit my older clothes. I was actually teased at school by other kids because they were very indifferent. My own friends started teasing me and that’s when I started getting worried. I had to take a different path and do the right thing in order to lead a healthy life.

I took another path and got rid of soda from my diet with light exercises. With the two alone, I lost 30 pounds. I could drink 8 to 10 cans of soda a day. So many people got worried thinking that I was dying because the weight came off unexpectedly. I was really happy and I couldn’t wait to join college after I started getting rid of my biggest embarrassment. During this period though, I still hadn’t learned about nutrition. The foods in college, drinks, and no exercises gained me 295 pounds at 22 when I was graduating.

I started my first job and I had to change people’s opinion on me. I don’t know where the determination came from because I was really determined to make a change. I resorted to fitness and healthy diet. I could see the results coming slowly and that is exactly when I knew what I wanted.

WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM THE STORY?

It is very important that you find a balance. Life has never been easy since I made that decision. I always try to weigh between being happy and staying fit. I have lost so many pounds (weighing 170 pounds) since then and I must admit that it has taken me all my strength to get to that. Losing weight is half the fight. Actually, the easier bit. Maintain it is the biggest challenge and this has made so many people gain back their weights. People will only talk about how to lose weight but there is something that they will never tell you.

Find the right mindset. Do not get to the process with unrealistic goals. I thought that I would look like a bodybuilder from 295 pounds in few 3 months. Stop comparing yourself to bodybuilders or the socialites. You’d be surprised when I tell you that most of these people use pills as supplements. Just focus on yourself. Make your own goals and focus on achieving them rather than doing a comparison.

Be kind to yourself. Having unrealistic goals leads you to live a life of disappointments that only punishes you. You will end up wrapping up your happiness trying to achieve goals that you will never achieve. The best thing you can do is to embrace imperfection.
